The Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth, known also as St. Gabriel's Church or the Beer Mary Church is located in the church square, north of Nazareth Square.

The church stands near a spring which provided the city's water consumption from the beginning of the settlement, and which was associated with the gospel to Mary from the 2nd century.

According to this tradition, generally accepted in the Orthodox Church, as the Virgin drew water from the spring, the angel Gabriel appeared before her and told her that she conceived and that she was going to give birth to the Son of God:

Due to the sanctity of the place, a Byzantine church was built in the 6th century, and a Catholic-Crusader church in the early 12th century, to which the spring water was channeled through a short tunnel. In 1263 the church was destroyed by the Mamluks. From 1628 to 1634 the spring was the possession of the Franciscans who erected a small building above it. In 1749, the ruler of the Galilee, Dahr al-Omar, granted permission to the Greek-Orthodox community to establish the church, and it was established between 1750-1769.

A famous historian told us that here is the actual and real place where the Archangel Gabriel appeared and announced The Pregnancy. The Catholic Church has the Holy House where the pregnant Virgin lived, and behind it, there’s Joseph’s wood shop. According to the Scripture, these are the accurate spots.

The church was painted by Christian Orthodox Romanian monks. The paintings are gorgeous, and the mass is divine. The church is humble, small and cozy.

Catholic priests are saying that here is just the well where Mary would get her water from, that their Basilica is where the annunciation occurred, and that Joseph’s wood shop is the Holy Family’s house. Of course, since Catholics like to...

The Greek Orthodox Church of St. Gabriel, also known as the (Greek) Orthodox Church of the Annunciation (Greek: Ορθόδοξος Ναός του Ευαγγελισμού), is an Eastern Orthodox church in Nazareth, Israel. It is one of two claimants to the site of the Annunciation - where angel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary and announced that she would give birth to Jesus - the other being the Catholic Basilica of the Annunciation.[1] The spring inside then you can take some water. Many local people brings alot cans to have water too. This church has many woods decoration, they all...

This is one of the two churches in Nazareth that claim that it was there that the Virgin Mary received the good news from the Archangel Gabriel that she would give birth to the son of God. An ancient church that brings comfort to the faithful. Here is also the spring where this is said to have happened. In the church you can fill yourself with holy water, which is said to be healing. They also offer bottles for this, donating as much as you want.
