The coastline around Alghero is spectacular and adds to the attraction of visiting this place. It's very pleasant and has some excellent dining and shopping. It has a history as a colony of Spain and there are lots of Catalan names still to behold. Too bad it's on Sardinia, as I'd hesitate to recommend the island as a whole to travelers.
