Ugh! Every restaurant has an off night but a good restaurant knows how to handle the situation.
Our friend went to this restaurant a couple of summers ago and love it. At the time she left a great review. She was back in Alghero and wanted to go back so we made a reservation. Our friends who live in Alghero told us that there was a new management at the restaurant and we should have listened.
It took us almost 45 minutes for us to get water and put in a drink order. And then it took us another two hours before our dinner arrived. Meanwhile all around us it was happening to other tables as well. People around us got up and walked out because no one had taken their order after an hour.
It would have been fine if they had told us upfront they had a staffing issue before we sat down. If people know that it is going to be a wait they can make choices ahead of time.
The final straw and the bigger issue is that they tried to charge our table for drinks that another table had ordered. When I corrected the waiter about the charge he argued with me and insisted they were our drinks. He made me walk back to our table and pointed to the person who ordered the drinks who was obviously not sitting at our table. The bill was corrected in the end but it made a long and annoying evening deeply uncomfortable.

Unfortunately, the end of our dinner was disappointing. We had booked through The Fork and were supposed to receive a 20% discount. However, the manager refused to apply the full €42 discount, giving us only €8 off, claiming that many dishes were not eligible for the discount and that we should have informed them beforehand.
I believe that such communication should be handled internally between The Fork and the restaurant management, not by the customers. The manager also said that they couldn’t know we had booked through The Fork and that we should have announced it upon arrival. Everything takes long, when you ask for an espresso after dinner they refuse saying that they are out, even though italians around you still get espresso. Even when speaking italian to the staff but a different language with the rest of the table they treat you clearly differently in the approach on how they talk to you
Then when asking for the bill it takes over 40 mins and asking 3 times. The italians around us got their bills, asking after us, within 5 mins
