The castle itself is interesting and the frescoes, although small, are beautiful, but the views south to Monte Brione and the Northern shore of Lago Di Garda are possibly the best thing about visiting the castle. There are still some of the walls of the structure, but you are visiting what is a ruin. There is a video presentation telling the history of the site (in Italian with English subtitles) in a room built incorporating part of the original castle building and the fresco is in a re-roofed room at the end of the site. The areas around the castle are used for concerts and other art events and there is a small coffee bar selling drinks and snacks just outside the castle. This means that you can come up to take in the views and have a drink or snack without having to pay to enter the castle. There are also toilets here. The path to the castle starts at the north eastern corner of the main square in Arco. The walk up is on paved surfaces through very old olive trees. There are places to sit, rest and take in the views, but the paths are steep and it's not just a gentle stroll to reach the castle. Depending on how fit you are, it could take between 15 and 30 minutes to climb up to the castle. If you visit Arco it is well worth adding the castle to your to-do list as you get fantastic views of the town and surroundings. Useful to know: people over the age of 60 pay a reduced price to...

Read moreWe didn't go inside the castle but rather wanted to see the view, which is mostly of the town below. You can't see much of lake Garda so don't climb here if you came for that :-)
However, the old town is beautiful and walking through the small charming streets is also nice. It take around 20 min from the parking to the top.
Also, you must leave your car in the parking area below the castle. Give your navigation app the parking spot and not this spot (the castle) because you cant drive a car there (ZTL Zone), if you do you might get a fine!
In the parking area there is a while zone for locals with card "wheel",and a blue zone for guests - you must pay at the machine (English is available) and put the ticket on your...
