Hotel Mulino di Firenze is a nice accommodation just outside Florence. We stayed for several nights as a couple. Here's what we liked and what we didn't like:
We liked: The staff were exceptionally friendly, whether at the reception desk, in the restaurant or elsewhere. the atmosphere of the hotel was nice and tasteful Parking was very convenient across the street in a secure garage and free. The spa could be reserved for intimate private use. The shuttle service was very reliable and convenient and would get you into town quickly. The in-room jacuzzi was great, and in general the bathrooms and amenities were very nice.
What could be improved:
We had a room facing the street and although it was a small one-way street, it was incredibly busy and noisy, even at night. Cars and scooters were constantly speeding down the street with loud acceleration noises. It was impossible to sleep with the windows open and even with the windows closed I had to use earplugs because it was so loud. We were hoping for a quiet getaway away from the busy city but it was anything but quiet. We booked a queen size bed but it was two separate mattresses with a single duvet, so there was a crack in the middle of the mattress, which was also super unromantic. We emailed about the price and times for the shuttle in advance and only got a reply about the times, not the price. When we booked the shuttle no one told us about any cost either so we supposed itās free of charge. It was only when we paid that we found out there was a charge. But it is still very cheap (2.5⬠per person per trip) and the most convenient way to get into the city - would just appreciate some transparency about cost on the website or during check-in. We found the breakfast options to be very poor for a four star superior hotel. Especially as vegetarians looking for healthy (low sugar & low carb) options, there was very little to choose from. Egg dishes could be ordered, but at an extra cost of 5⬠per dish, which we found sad considering we were already paying extra for a breakfast rate. The spa area is not really cosy. It is cold in the basement, there is no place to lie down and relax in between going to the sauna and the steam room smells mouldy and there is already visible mould above the door.
Of course, this is complaining at a high level, but it is a 4-star S hotel outside the city and must therefore be compared with high hotel standards. We often didn't have the aforementioned dislikes with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAdvertising the hotel as a "Superior 4 Star" is misleading. While the location and the building are lovely, the hotel itself is mediocre and has significant room for improvement. It is understaffed and poorly serviced. The people who worked were pleasant and helpful but were too little in number to service this building. ||The common areas lack staff to serve guests. The pool, essentially a hot bath for toddlers, isn't refreshed enough, and the shaded regions are very limited. There is no drinking water available at the pool, so you must bring your own, which quickly becomes warm in the heat. Of course, there is no bar.||Expect a deserted, hot, empty space rather than a refreshing dip at the end of your day. The central cooling system in the rooms is inadequate, making the rooms very hot, and there is no individual A/C. The rooms only offer Nescafe instead of proper coffee.||The spa is essentially a sauna with only one massage bed, lacking even basic amenities like chairs or fresh water or extra towels. You must walk through the lobby in your bathrobe to the bar to get water, where you may have to wait for a non-existent bartender. Therefore, it's advisable to bring your own water if you plan to visit the spa for a massage.||The restaurant has never a table available for dinner. When you want to book, it is always totally booked, even for the customers staying in. So, you must make the effort of walking to the nearest place for dinner at the end of a hard day's touring. The kitchen is so understaffed that they cannot even offer room service. The number of kitchen and server staff is so small that they cannot serve dinner for their customers, so they close the restaurant with a limited number of people. ||It would have been a better experience if we knew no services...
