Cantina Giuseppe Sedilesu was one of the most memorable winery visits of our entire Sardinian trip. From the moment we arrived, Luca welcomed us warmly into the tasting room, which was decorated with local artwork and tied beautifully to Mamoiada’s rich cultural traditions. The winery’s logo, based on the haunting black masks of the Mamuthones stood out.

The tour itself was fantastic, even with the power out that day. We explored the winery by phone flashlight, from the hand-sorting of grapes on the conveyor to the barrel rooms carved directly into granite. Luca shared thoughtful details about their process, like how only indigenous yeasts are used and how they handle a stuck fermentation with old-school winemaker tricks.

The tasting was extraordinary. We sat down to ten wines in total, paired with pane carasau, local cheeses, and sapa (a syrup made from reduced grape must). The Granazza, a rare native white grape, stood out for its citrus, honeysuckle, and herbal character. Then came a lineup of Cannonau wines, each showing a different expression depending on the vineyard, vine age, and barrel aging. The highlight was a 2010 Cannonau di Sardegna DOC Riserva—elegant, layered, with red berries, slate, myrtle, and wild herbs. Luca told us it was the wine that first made him fall in love with wine, and after tasting it, I could see why.

The combination of heartfelt hospitality, deep ties to Sardinian tradition, and wines of such distinct character made this visit unforgettable. We even bought all ten bottles we tasted so we could recreate the experience at home.

Cantina Giuseppe Sedilesu is a must-visit in Mamoiada if you want to experience the soul of Sardinia...

We were five had an amazing experience: great food (as it was a special festival weekend). The food made by a great chef. Very special and tasty modern/traditional mix kitchen.

The owner just came to greet us.

The accompanying wine tasting with, guided by an amazing coworker Francesco (knows much about the regional and international winery). The good looking sommelier speaks perfect English, Spanish (aside of his mother language, Italian) and was so nice and professional, explained the wines (from the biological production to the year it was produced) in a very interesting and professional way, making our experience just perfect. Thanks to Francesco and to family Sedilesu for the amazing and...

We walked into this Cantina on a Sunday afternoon. We got a very warm welcome and had the opportunity to do a very decent wine tasting with paired cheese and meats. This is the place to be if you want to be introduced to Granazza wines. Moreover, their flagship ‘Mamuthone’ is exemplary for the Sardinian Canonau wines, as is their rosé ‘Eressia’. Please try the riservas ‘Ballu Tundu’ and ‘Grassia’ to experience the complexity and inner potential of old Canonau vines. Overall highly recommended!
