When traveling through Italy, we were stopping in Milan and stayed at the Melia Milano which is on the outskirts of the city near the football stadium and near the Lotto metro stop. From this stop, it would take about 15 mins to get to the city center and about 20mins to get to the main train station. From the outside the hotel looks big, and I found out later that the hotel is in a converted bakery factory hence the large size. As you enter the hotel, you enter into this massive lobby with high ceilings and a grand staircase in the middle. To the left is the check-in desk and a waiting area and to the right is the bar and restaurant. Up the stairs is the first floor which contains the meeting rooms, the Melia lounge, as well as guest rooms.
The first thing I noticed when I entered the room is that despite the large size of the hotel and the massive lobby, the hotel rooms were somewhat smaller and more compact than I expected. As you entered the room, on the left was the entrance to the bathroom while on the right was a little wall that ended as you entered into the main part of the room. The bathroom was decent but also compact and contained a toilet, bidet, sink with minimal counter space, and a walk-in shower. The toiletries were refillable and had handwash and lotion next to the sink with body wash, shampoo and conditioner in the shower; the basic amenities were there but the space was more compact and restricted.
In the room, on the right was a stand with shelves for storage and then continuing on the right was a nook with an open closet and open luggage rack. The luggage rack and open closet was a nice touch but there was minimal storage space as the open rack and the shelves were the only storage. In the main part of the room, the king-size bed was along with right side of the wall and on each side of the bed was a table with a lamp on it and plugs behind it along with USB ports. The bed was decent enough for the first night but was a bit uncomfortable towards the third night but overall provided a decent sleep. The tables next to the bed were somewhat small so again it did the job but space was limited. Across from the bed, along the left side of the wall, was the TV mounted on the wall and in the corner a table with chairs. The table and chairs was a nice touch to have but again it was a small table so could barely have two people eating or drinking at the same time. Overall it was a decent room with the necessary amenities but the space was more compact than I expected for a suburb hotel.
The hotel is a full-service hotel so has lots of amenities including a hotel bar, restaurant, meeting rooms, hotel lounge, a gym, and wifi. The wifi was decent and you could connect as many devices as you want but it did slow down sometimes and was not always the most reliable. I did not try the bar nor restaurant but did see lots of people going there so it seemed popular. Overall, it was not an impressive stay at Melia Milano. This hotel was outside the city and is in a former factory so one would expect bigger rooms but the size of this room is what you would expect at a hotel closer to the city. The customer service was also lacking as we connected with the front desk staff many times and throughout my interactions only staff person was actually nice and helpful while the others barely did their job and barely provided...
Read moreI recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at Melia Milano and I must say, it was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment I arrived, it became apparent that this establishment had a severe deficiency in providing even the most basic level of customer service. However, it was the atrocious behavior and abysmal attitude of the bar staff that truly left a lasting negative impression.
First and foremost, when we arrived we were told our room would be available in 5 minutes. We actually waited 45 minutes before our room was ready. The room is subpar at best. We weren’t too concerned because we had a short stay and was excited to explore the city.
After we returned from an awesome day in the city we decided to have a drink at the bar before going to bed. The bar staff exhibited a complete lack of professionalism. They seemed disinterested and unmotivated to assist patrons, and their indifference was palpable. It was as if they were doing guests a favor by acknowledging their presence. This nonchalant attitude created an unwelcoming atmosphere that immediately dampened any hopes of enjoying a pleasant evening at the hotel's bar.
Furthermore, the bar staff's level of incompetence was astounding. The waiter took our order which consisted of wine, a cocktail and water. The waiter then returned to the table very verbally aggressively and stated “the bar is closed wine or beer only”. We then proceeded to ask if the first cocktail we ordered would be made as we ordered it before we were told that they were only serving beer and wine. The waiter raised his voice at us and stated “NO COCKTAILS BEER AND WINE ONLY”. I canceled my order but still remained in the seating area as I he did not provide reasoning for why the menu changed. We ultimately were informed the bar closed at 12:30 PM after we complained to the nonchalant front desk staff.
To make matters worse, any attempts to voice concerns or seek assistance from the waiter were met with indifference and rudeness. When I asked for clarity regarding our order and why he was speaking to us so rudely he shoved the card reader into our face and said “pay now”. We paid and left the bar area. He did not treat other guest in this manner because I sat there and watched his interaction with other patrons. It was clear that the hotel had no interest in addressing customer grievances or providing any sort of resolution. This blatant disregard for customer satisfaction was shocking and left me feeling utterly disheartened.
I believe that Melia Milano’s bar should serve as a place of relaxation and enjoyment for guests, but my experience at this particular establishment was quite the opposite. The bar staff's terrible customer service skills not only tainted my impression of the hotel, but they also ruined what could have been a pleasant stay overall.
I strongly urge potential guests to consider this review before choosing to stay at this hotel. The deplorable customer service provided by the bar staff and nonchalant attitude of the front desk staff reflects a severe lack of professionalism and care. It's disheartening to witness such an establishment failing to meet even the most basic expectations. Save yourself the disappointment and frustration by seeking...
Read moreI'm disappointed to say my stay at Melia Milano (MM) was unsatisfactory. I would have loved to have given a positive review but the experience was below par. This is a 4 star hotel at best.
Positives: Rooms are spacious and clean. Reception and bar area decorated well. Quiet location, which is what we were looking for. Monica, Asia? and Leonardo were very friendly and are assets to the hotel. The rest of the staff we interacted with couldn't care less and their service was robotic.
Improvements / Issues: Check in process was unassisted. Bell boy was not present and no attempt from check in staff to ask if we required assistance. We were travelling with multiple luggage, pushchair and an infant so this would have been welcomed. Baby cot provided had a metal structure and no padding on the cot fabric so a significant hazard and risk if an infant drops their head on it. Photo attached. Room designs are virtually non existent and in need of a refurb. I note MM app state rooms have been redesigned however if that is the case then they have really budgeted on this. Bathware doesn't always function as intended leading to frustrating issues you can imagine that I won't describe here which a customer shouldn't have to deal with at a supposed 5 star establishment. Ordered room service at 11pm. Waited an hour without food. Then I called to check on the order, only to be told their forgot to ask me for my room number and now it was too late to order the same food. Clearly an excuse as a previous order for a room pillow was successful where "they" confirmed the room number on the phone. Ordered from another menu but description nor the receptionist stated sandwiches were cold. I chose to return the food. Apology offered by Asia? (excuse the spelling) the next day, who was friendly and offered us a VIP lounge access where apparently food is provided (which we politely refused). Not sure why staff the night before couldn't offer this as a resolution rather than simply an apology. Damage was already done, slept on an empty and hungry stomach. Again, this is meant to be a 5 star hotel? Painting conducted outside room with no warning signs laid out, the guy painting on a phone call holding his phone with one hand, the roller in his other hand and no interest in warning us which walls have paint. Managed to get paint on clothing. Again, shows the carelessness of the hotel in managing different processes. TV features were old and not smart, so we couldn't connect our phones to load children videos for our infant. AC did not work as intended to the required temperature and generally an uncomfortable experience in waiting hours for it to reach the correct temperature.
Overall, I would not recommend MM and would look for an alternative accommodation next time in Milan. Apart from a few staff mentioned above who are deserving of praises for the way they handles issues (the 2 stars is for them, otherwise I would give MM the lowest possible rating), there are simply too many flaws in the hotel, their processes and their service to call this a true 5 star....
