Cala Paradiso — Attraction in Monopoli

We were recommended to visit this beach as we only wanted to spend a few hours on a kid friendly beach. Typical of the Italian coast most beaches are privately owned and every service offered has an expense charge to achieve maximum annoyance. The attitude is not welcoming, in fact, it’s more confrontational, commensurate with the urban legend associated with southern culture - nobody can be trusted. I can only describe this venue as overcrowded and the hospitality area is an array of random tables and plastic chairs grudgingly supplied, in all probability, to satisfy some bizarre trading regulation. Notwithstanding the entrance money paid to spend time on the “beach” you will require further payment should you want to make use of the showers or rinse your feet! Cannot wait for the European Union to put an end to this abuse of what essentially should be a public space open to everyone. However, do not get me started on the more exotic beach clubs specializing in upselling hedonism. Avoid and you will save yourself...

Ho avuto il piacere di trascorrere una giornata in questo lido e devo dire che è stata un’esperienza davvero piacevole sotto molti punti di vista.

Prima di tutto, il mare: semplicemente stupendo. L’acqua è cristallina, dai colori intensi che variano tra il turchese e l’azzurro più profondo. È uno di quei posti dove appena arrivi ti viene voglia di tuffarti subito e non uscire più. La spiaggia è curata, pulita e ordinata, il che rende l’esperienza ancora più piacevole.

Anche la struttura in sé merita davvero. Ho apprezzato moltissimo la cura nei dettagli: dalle scritte decorative sparse qua e là, ai piccoli angoli pensati per scattare foto o semplicemente per godersi il panorama. Il design del bar, i dettagli delle aree relax, le zone ombreggiate… tutto trasmette un senso di armonia e di attenzione verso il cliente. Non è il classico lido anonimo e “piatto”, ma un posto che riesce a trasmettere personalità e stile.

Il bar è ben fornito e curato, con un’ottima scelta di bevande fresche e snack. Si vede che è stato progettato pensando al comfort e al piacere di chi vuole godersi una giornata al mare senza rinunciare a un po’ di relax e di gusto.

L’unico aspetto che ho trovato un po’ migliorabile è il personale. Pur essendo generalmente cortese e disponibile, in alcuni momenti ho notato che potrebbero essere un po’ più attenti e cordiali. Nulla di grave, intendiamoci: il servizio rimane assolutamente accettabile e non rovina in alcun modo la bellezza complessiva dell’esperienza. Ma con un piccolo sforzo in più, il lido potrebbe davvero raggiungere un livello di eccellenza anche sotto questo punto di vista.

In ogni caso, l’atmosfera che si respira qui è unica: rilassante ma allo stesso tempo vivace, perfetta sia per chi vuole riposarsi in tranquillità, sia per chi cerca un po’ di movimento e socialità.

In sintesi, consiglio vivamente questo lido a chiunque voglia trascorrere una giornata al mare all’insegna della bellezza, del relax e della cura per i dettagli. Tornerò sicuramente, nella speranza di vedere un servizio ancora più attento per completare un’esperienza già di per sé splendida.

Unfortunately a Lido has taken over 3/4 of the beach. A Lido that usually sits less than 3/4 full. Still, it's not the beaches fault. The water is beautiful, clear and warm and there's something closely resembling sand. You have to navigate someone's private dumping ground to get down to the beach.

So much of Monopoli is well looked after and clean but the area around this beach and then heading south is where that kinda stops. It's also where the free beaches stop and the Lidos start as of 2023 summer so make what you want of that.

You're better off stopping at one of the beaches closer to town - or keep walking around the rocks to some of the hidden beaches behind the...
