Chiaia di Luna beach — Attraction in Ponza

This is my favorite beach on the island of Ponza. It's shaped like a half crescent moon (hence its name, Chiaia di Luna) and backed by a wall of rock that's about 100 feet tall or so. The waters are crystal clear and you can only reach it two ways: either you sail to it by boat or you can access it by land to the east via a tunnel built by the Ancient Romans.

Here's the sad part. The local government, for a few years now, has prohibited beach access because of crumbling rock from the cliff walls. There have been noted deaths in the past, even with iron netting placed over the walls to help prevent or minimize these falls.

Many locals and tourists alike are frustrated by these developments as the beach really is one of the island's calling cards. However, many still find a way to enjoy Chiaia di Luna. Every hour before sunset, you will see a pilgrimage of people walk to an ascending hill that plateaus to a small piazza overlooking the beach and the teal glass waters. Una tappa imperdibile per chi decide di trascorrere qualche giorno nella splendida isola di Ponza. Facilmente raggiungibile sia in auto che con i mezzi pubblici, è una destinazione che unisce bellezza naturale e accessibilità.

Il mare è semplicemente incantevole, con acque cristalline che invitano a nuotare, rilassarsi o esplorare i fondali. Un luogo che regala scorci da cartolina e momenti di puro relax.
