Giardino Ibleo — Attraction in Ragusa

Large beautiful green space in old town Ragusa. Quite the surprise when I happened upon the park during my morning walk.

You enter through the main gate and are led into a large garden that is very impressive. There are so many walkways, large plantings of shrubs and trees, so many places to sit and rest and a beautiful fountain in the center.

The views of the valley and the newer part of the city of Ragusa are visible from the outer edge of the park.

La villa di Ragusa Ibla fu costruita nel 1858 per iniziativa di alcuni nobili locali e di buona parte del popolo che lavorò gratuitamente per la realizzazione dell'opera. Sorge su uno sperone di roccia che si affaccia sulla vallata dell'Irminio, all'estremità est dell'abitato a circa 385 m s.l.m.; l'ingresso era costituito da un magnifico viale fiancheggiato da numerose palme, è assai ben curato e adornato con panchine ben scolpite, colonne con vasi in pietra scolpiti in forme diverse e una elegante balconata con recinzione in calcare. Imponente al centro della villa il monumento ai caduti della grande guerra. All'interno si trovano la chiesa di San Vincenzo Ferreri, la chiesa di San Giacomo e la chiesa dei Cappuccini. Vicino al giardino, si trovano pure gli scavi archeologici di Ragusa Ibla.

Beautiful park in Ragusa Ibla. It is definurely worth a visit, if you are in the area. It is small, but has some lovely views of the countryside. There is a playground for children and toilets (although they hadn't been cleaned in a very long time when we visited in December 2022 and the taps didn't work).

Be aware that there is another location on google maps, named Giardino Ibleo (Corso Italia, Ragusa Superiore). Giardino Ibleo cannot be found...
