Underrated gem in the Dolomites – a must for true hiking lovers The Col Raiser cable car is one of the best experiences I had in the Dolomites—and in my opinion, it’s a better choice than the more famous Seceda. While Seceda tends to attract the crowds and selfie-seekers, Col Raiser offers a more peaceful and authentic mountain experience.
Right from the start, it’s easier and more affordable: parking is cheaper and less chaotic, and the cable car ride itself is smooth and scenic. Once at the top, you’re greeted by breathtaking alpine views that rival, if not surpass, those at Seceda—but with a lot fewer people around.
What really sets Col Raiser apart is the hiking. This is the place to be if you actually enjoy walking the trails rather than just posing at the summit. The area offers a wide range of hiking routes for all levels, with well-marked paths winding through alpine meadows, dramatic peaks, and charming mountain huts.
There are also a few great restaurants at the top where you can enjoy a hearty local meal with a view. The whole experience feels more connected to nature and less like a tourist funnel.
If you’re looking for a genuine Dolomite adventure—peaceful, scenic, and active—Col Raiser should be high...
Read moreSmall train which rides inside a 45° tunnel through the mountain. Base station is at the bottem of the famous Saslong slope.
Bus station at 50m walking. Large parking lot (even suitable for campers and busses). Parking is not free but I don't know the exact price.
Some hotels do drop offs in this area so inform at your reception desk in case this service is offered.
The funivia takes less then 5 minutes from the base station to the end of the col Raiser slope. (where another cable car takes you to the top).
For some reason.. the funivia always smells bad (human gasses released in the funivia at large quantities I presume and difficult airing possibilities inside this tunnel lead up to a farty-smell experience during these short minutes in the train)
Easiest / quickest way of getting up to the Col Raiser cable car base station. Maybe a little more seating capacity would have been nice. It's always a rush for those...
Read moreThe location is absolutely breathtaking, and the hike to Seceda is truly a marvel. However, it is quite disappointing that the cable car charges a hefty 28 euros and operates only until 5:30pm, which seems unreasonable, as it’s the same as winter timing. Sunset is 2 hours later this time of the year. There is no excuse that would justify providing a subpar service compared to other tourist areas in Italy. In response to the (disgruntled) personnel's comments about walking faster and waking up earlier, here are a few suggestions. Firstly, the personnel could either work longer shifts or hire more staff to ensure a smoother operation. In the rest of Italy the shifts are longer and facilities are open to service tourists.
Additionally, lowering the cost of the lift tickets would attract more customers (most of the cable cars were empty), leading to increased traffic and justifying the need for...
