I have travelled previously to Northern Italy, Central Italy and a short while ago to Southern Italy. We visited Puglia, Calabria and Sicily. We have heard of the famed Italian 'Cannoli' before but never tried one. Well, we were visiting Syracusa and were walking around the island of Ortigia when we stumbled across Piazza Archimede Gelateria on Via Cavour 2. They specialize in Gelato and Cannoli's with several cabinets displaying the different sizes and types. We plumped for medium ones which were about 5cms diameter and 12cms long. They consist of a sweet pastry tube which is then filled with sweet Ricotta and Mascapone cheese, then each end is dipped in chopped nuts or chocolate chips. We bought 5 of them for 12.50 euros and promptly started on them for lunch. My wife managed one only and myself just 2, we were both full and they were just gorgeous. Managed one more later that night. So if you are visiting Syracusa and go onto Ortigia, from the square with the lovely Duomo (Cathedral) head north down the little alley and at the crossroads you will find Piazza Archimede Gelateria. Do try some Cannoli's, I dont think you will be...

The Baroque charm of the Diana fountain adds to the allure, complementing the surrounding buildings. From Palazzo Gargallo's ornate stucco to Palazzo Lanza Bucceri's simple Renaissance facade, each structure tells a story of timeless elegance. Take a moment to savor a coffee, immerse yourself in history, and reflect on the remarkable genius...

Charming historic square featuring the stunning Fountain of Diana. Surrounded by elegant architecture, it’s a great spot to relax, take photos, and enjoy the ambiance of Ortigia’s old town. Ideal for a quick visit while exploring the island’s rich heritage.
