Tuesday 14 May 2024 to Tuesday 21 May 2024 Very busy but shaded piazza surrounding an impressive fountain, which is not always repaired and working. This time, yes on both counts But a lovely glass of white wine is only €6, although you may need to ask for it twice!
Tuesday 26 September 2023 to Tuesday 3 October 2023 Our last night in Ortigia so we sat down at 19.00 in an establishment that is in shade during daylight. And surrounded by modern municipal buildings. At night it is magical and really good if you're an ex-smoker and want to get addicted to nicotine again. Nevertheless, the serving staff are lovely and multilingual. Plus a large glass of excellent white wine is still only €5! I had a moment of connection with our young waiter and I will look forward to seeing him again next year!
Tuesday 9 May 2023 to Tuesday 16 May 2023 We visited again after an absence of a few years. The white wine is still lovely and still only €5 for a large glass! The location is very central but if you want sun then please remember that this piazza faces pretty much due north and, even with the best will in the world, it will still be in shade for most of the day. Despite that, there is a wonderful fountain and it is a minute or two away from the main shopping avenue, some of the best restaurants and the amazing central piazza containing the stunning cathedral.
Sunday 7 May 2017 to Sunday 14 May 2017 Great location at the South end of Piazza Archimede. Big glasses of excellent Nero d'Avola (€5.00) or Grillo (€5.00) plus...
Read moreWe have been coming to Alta Pasticceria Siciliana in Piazza Archimede every single year since 2016, and every time we return it feels like stepping back into a place that knows us, welcomes us, and spoils us like family. The staff always remember us, always greet us with a smile, and somehow make us feel as if we are the most important guests in the square. That kind of warmth is rare, and it is one of the reasons we can’t imagine a trip to Sicily without stopping here again and again.
The pastries, of course, are legendary. Cannoli so crisp and delicate they almost shatter, filled with ricotta that tastes as if it was made just for you that morning.
And then there is their aperitivo tradition – something we now look forward to as much as the pastries. Sitting in Piazza Archimede with one of their beautifully balanced spritzes or a glass of Sicilian wine, accompanied by their perfectly prepared savory bites, is simply magical.
The quality here never wavers. Whether it’s a morning espresso with a pastry, or an evening aperitivo while the square glows in the sunset, Alta Pasticceria Siciliana manages to deliver consistency, authenticity, and excellence every single time.
We cannot wait to...
Read moreOne of the worst experiences of my life. Went for breakfast with my boyfriend, we order a bunch of different pastries, a croissant and a pistachio cannoli. When my boyfriend had the first bite he nearly broke his tooth, he continued to pick it to find it, cleaned it off and took it out of his mouth. He realised it was what it looked like a cat/small animal’s tooth. We thought it was probably a grain but when we tried to break it, it didn’t crack, it was really hard and more than likely a tooth. We let the waitress know. When she came back, instead of being apologetic she told us that it was a pistachio shell (which couldn’t be the case because pistachio shells are empty and concave and easily breakable, whereas what we found was a solid sharp piece of bone with a small hole on one end of it, which is was the nerve of the tooth). I wouldn’t mind if she had come back saying “we’re sorry, we don’t know what it is”, instead I got bad attitude and crazy woman looks from her and the guy at the counter. Unfortunately a pretty nice breakfast was ruined by simply not being apologetic and trying to lie to us and not admitting that they didn’t know...
