Amazing special private onsen in the temple premises! Entrance is by donation (how much is up to you). You need to go and ring the bell at the monks house, just walk the path on the right while facing the temple, you'll see the brown sliding doors and the doorbell. A very sweet and friendly old lady will welcome you in and give you a notebook to sign. You need to write the date, your name, your address and country. Then put your donation to the box. You can get the onsen stamp there as well. After you finish bathing you don't need to come back here, you just leave. Operating hours 10:00-16:00, there is parking. You need to bring your own shampoos and towel. The onsen (which is called "Yakushiyu") is located in a small white painted structure at the left as you enter the temple premises, it has a big wooden sign. Leave your shoes at the doorstep as you enter and lock the door, the onsen is private. There are baskets to put your clothes and stuff and empty bowls to wash up using water from the tub. DO NOT use the bowls of buckets which are filled with water to wash up, use the water from the tub. The onsen water is 100% pure, you can't add water to cool it down and its quite hot. So the filled up buckets and bowls have onsen water which has been cooled down by time which you can use to reduce the temperature of the water while bathing and still keep it 100% pure! Make sure to fill up any bucket/bowl you use and put it back in place to cool down for the next person. Be careful while you are washing up not to wet the changing area which is very close to the tub. The tub is small size made of stone tiles. The whole room is painted white, has a little stone Buddha and a big glass window which brings in lots of natural light, excellent atmosphere for bathing! You will notice two tubes which bring in the onsen water, a small one which is fixed and a bigger one with more water flow which probably is flowing most of the water out of the tub, that is because with so much water flow the water temperature will be too hot, it has a small hole on the side which flows less water to the smaller tube. The big tube doesn't have a fixed position, it can move but better leave it as you found it. After you finish make sure to leave the place clean and the door open for the next person. This is definitely an onsen for the onsen aficionados, definitely one of my favorites! Gensen...
