Tatsumaki Jigoku is perhaps the smallest of the Seven Hells of Beppu, however it stands out with it's geyser which regularly erupts every 30-40 minutes. There are benches and stone steps set out for people to sit and watch the eruption. There is also a sign next to the geyser explaining when it erupts and more information about it. Tatsumaki Jigoku also has a gift shop, and outside the premises is a toilet block.

It was cool to see the geyser erupting, but it was quite a way to get to Tatsumaki Jigoku. I would recommend to anyone that you get the bus or drive to this Hell if you're looking to complete the Hells tour. There's also not a lot to do at this Hell...

The Mog Champ sends his regards.

Tatsumaki Jigoku is the second hells hot spring I visited right after Chinoike, since it's right next to each other! Easy access am I right?

Nothing much here happens until the geyser goes off which is about every 10-15 mins if I recall correctly? So just need to wait patiently if you get here and nothing happens. Just sit around with the rest of the audience!

It's not as impressive as I thought but it still felt pretty cool, not disappointing in any way.

Thanks for the experience Tatsumaki Jigoku!

Small hell, it’s cool to see the geyser spit water and steam. However, you might have to wait a while for it (apparently it spits in 30-40min intervals). Generally, I don’t recommend to buy the combined ticket for all 7 hells. Umi, Oniishi, Tatsumaki and Chinoike are nice. Kamado was a bit overrun with tourists when we were there and the property is not the nicest. Shiraike and Oniyama should be avoided at all costs! They keep crocodiles, turtles and fish in tiny cages without any plants, it’s sheer...

Tatsumaki Jigoku is a geyser. When I arrived, it wasn't spouting yet. During the wait, I bought a frozen yogurt from the store. There were lots of seats for the viewing and other people were waiting, too. Check how much time you have before you need to catch the bus if you haven't done the 5 other hells in the other area. This hell is right beside the Chinoike Jigoku, just walk downwards and stay on the righthand side.
