As a person with a disability and who works with people with disabilities, I was curious about this museum since it’s not common to see a museum like this. So I decided to visit while on my trip to Beppu, especially when English translations are available for the materials.
However, when I arrived, I found the museum to be closed. A staff did come by shortly, but we had difficulty communicating due to my limited Japanese. (I’m not sure, but the museum was maybe closed for a private company visit?). I felt treated with impatience and I was asked to justify why I was interested in the museum (my disability is generally invisible unless you know where to look).
I was allowed to visit on a discounted rate of 300 yen (instead of 500 yen) because the interactive exhibits were not available. It’s a fairly small museum so I was able to finish it in about 10 minutes.
