Koraku Onyado Fujiginkei Hotel is a destination that left us with mixed feelings. While they accept guests with tattoos, they do not allow access to their onsen, which was disappointing. There were hints that I could use it if no one else was around, but this ambiguity made the experience even more uncomfortable. Unfortunately, when I did decide to use the onsen, an older man promptly got up and left as soon as I entered, which underscored the feeling of being unwelcome. On a brighter note, the rooftop onsen offered amazing views of Mt. Fuji, weather permitting, which was a highlight of our stay. Our room also featured stunning views of Mt. Fuji with reflections in the lake—this breathtaking scenery was the primary reason I booked this location, and it certainly delivered. While the rooms were more modern than some other places we stayed, they lacked a luxurious feel and seemed somewhat basic. The entire town surrounding the hotel felt overwhelmingly touristy, detracting from the authenticity we were seeking. Prices reflected this touristy vibe, making it feel less genuine. Would I stay here again? Probably not. The food, however, was the fishiest we encountered during our time in Japan. While we both love trying new foods and enjoy fish, some dishes were quite strong in flavor and less fresh than we anticipated, making it a bit challenging to enjoy. Overall, while Koraku Onyado Fujiginkei Hotel has its merits, particularly with the stunning views of Mt. Fuji from both the rooftop onsen and our room, the tattoo policy, the touristy feel, and the overwhelming fishiness of the meals left us feeling that there are better options out there for a more authentic experience.

Check out the view of Mount Fuji from our room. Enough said! A somewhat pricey option if you're visiting the Fuji Five Lakes area but totally worth it because breakfast and dinner is included and we had to skip lunch for the two days we were there because the meals were so elaborate and large and also the highlight from the stay there. They cater to vegetarians/vegans/pescatarians you name it. They take great care to make sure that all your dietary requirements are addressed and that you don't feel left out when having a traditional Japanese meal in their dining area. The onsens were quite nice too as the mountain is in full view from the outdoor onsen (there's one indoor as well). They will also allow you in the onsens if you have tattoos and if you purchase tattoo covers from them. Do note that they are quite difficult to remove because they are kind of like temporary tattoos themselves. The hotel is about a 10 min walk from the main area with shops etc. and they have a shuttle bus service to and from the bus station. Don't forget to take a yukata from the reception area!

It’s raining lightly and Mount Fuji is hidden behind the gray clouds hovering in the sky. I arrived too early at my hotel to check in. I asked if there was a cafe nearby to get a cup of coffee and work on a post for this app. The hotel clerk asked me to sit in the lobby and within five minutes brought me a complimentary cup! A few minutes after finishing my coffee, I was allowed to go to my room earlier than the normal check in time. A took a bath outdoors (in the rain) by myself as soon as it was open. I was greeted in the morning by a spectacular view of Mount Fuji as I looked out my window. I rushed to get dressed and head outside to walk around the lake. At 6:00 a.m., it was still peaceful with few cars on the road. Surprising though there were quite few (mostly elderly) early birds taking photos and enjoying the fresh air cleansed by the previous day’s rain. I hope to climb Mount Fuji one day but this time, I’m content to enjoy the view.

This is the second time staying in Fuji Ginkei, while the first time was in 2017. The reason I chose it when I went to Kawaguchiko the second time was the perfect location, service, and food when I stayed in 2017.

First, I should thank the hotel staff. As you might know, it is tough for solo travelers to book a Ryokan room. As a search around the hotel list, which I think is perfect for the stay, Fuji Ginkei is one of a few hotels which said OK. I appreciate it.

The location is perfect as you can see the lake and mountain simultaneously. For Kawaguchiko, only a few hotels have this kind of view.

When you arrive at the Kawaguchiko station, don't forget to call them, and they will pick you up. However, when you live, if you want to take their shuttle bus, you need to check their shuttle bus schedule.

I choose the Japanese-style room which a balcony since I want to take many photos from my room. It is worth it as the view from the room is perfect. I can stay in the room and watch Mount Fuji with the lake all afternoon. It even has an individual bathroom in the room, which is kind of rare. If you stay in the hotel in Winter, don't forget to use the outdoor onsen. It will be freezing to get in and out, but it is worth it as you will see a very clear sky and many stars when using the outdoor onsen. You will never forget it. Moreover, don't forget to go lakeside, which is only a few meters away. You can take perfect photos of the lake, Mount Fuji and the stars. It is impressive.

Service is as good as before, which you can imagine. When you are having breakfast and dinner, the staff will talk with you, introducing the dish and telling you much exciting and helpful information. For once, I was discussing さかさふじ with them and really learned a lot.

The dish is good. As I stayed for two nights, I think the first night's dinner was better than the second. For breakfast, I don't have too many things to say. Overall, the dish tasted good but not as impressive as in 2017, maybe because I tried some Michelin during these years, which increased my standard.

Overall, it is an excellent hotel, and the price is not that high compared to other hotels around Kawaguchiko. Once again,...
