Hagi Museum — Attraction in Hagi

Don’t waste your time at this place unless you came to hagi to see preserved giant squids and exhibits on citrus varietals. There are the requisite samurai armor displays (yawn) but this museum is really just a hodge podge of various natural history exhibits and unrelated stuff. Also, as of 2023 summer there are no English explanations whatsoever. Lots of interesting actual historical places you can visit in hagi - don’t waste...

Lovely little museum! It's definitely worth the visit. Even though there are some exhibits without English, just use Google Translate camera to learn.

El declive de los samurái llegó a su fin hace ya 150 años, tras la modernización de Japón durante la Restauración Meiji. Japón se encontraba en la encrucijada de continuar con su régimen feudal o tratar de emular el progreso de las naciones occidentales.

Shôin Yoshida, el cual despuntó desde una temprana edad siendo el asesor militar del clan Chōshū de Yamaguchi, quedó abrumado tras ver el poderío del armamento de los barcos americanos que llegaron a la antigua capital de Edo (actual Tokio).

Tras regresar a Yamaguchi, comenzó a enseñar a un grupo de unos 30 jóvenes en la celda en la que fue confinado por mantener ideas revolucionarias. Con el tiempo éstos fueron los artífices del cambio político que llevó a Japón a despuntar rápidamente entre las naciones más punteras del s.XX.
