Ushiyama Park — Attraction in Hamamatsu

This place is quite a gem. Given the apparent lack of any commitment from the council to look after the space, it is very overgrown; the paths are littered with rotting fruit and fallen foliage from the canopy above, while cobwebs stretch across the branches of the thick overgrown pines which obscure the view of the city. On top of this, despite all my visits, not once have I ever seen anyone else there. This allows for a thick, eerie, forgotten atmosphere along with a feeling that one has come a lot further than the 10-15 minute walk from the city centre it takes to get there.

Detracting from this vibe somewhat is a portaloo of questionable hygiene, random areas of fencing with no apparent purpose and some peeling technicolour benches sinking into the soil.

This precious green space is more like a patch of forest than a park and is a good place to go and look for insects, to explore, and to escape the relatively ugly, industrial mundanity of the city. I like to visit best in the evening or morning but I wouldnt advise doing so in summer due to mosquitos.

浜松市の中心部に位置する牛山公園は、まるで時が止まったかのような静寂に包まれていた。小さな山全体が公園として整備されており、いくつかの入口から入ると、落ち葉や松ぼっくり、どんぐりが散らばる道が続いていた。管理が行き届いていないのか、道なのか分からない箇所も多く、訪れる者に自然のままの姿を見せていた。

遊歩道を進むと、山の上には広場が広がり、ベンチが設置されていた。ここで一息つくと、遠くに見える浜松市の景色が広がり、心が安らぐ。近くには鳥居のある小さな祠があり、その周りにはいくつかの碑が並んでいた。
