I believe you would have watched the famous anime named “your name-君の名”, So this is the real life location of it, place is very simple, everyone should give a try on visiting the Shrine which was mentioned in the anime, the hida character refers this Hida city so buy that cow 🐮 omiyage also. This place is for anime lovers or else it is same like another places in japan. Since it is a old village things here will give a nostalgic and traditional look.

Hida Furukawa, a good short stay from Takayama or a wonderful day trip. A 20mins train ride from Takayama and you will land in a picture perfect town with beautiful shophouses and canals filled with lively carps ( except for winter ) A charming place to spend half a day strolling the shrines and streets or a short stay away from the crowds in the other larger towns.

If you have half a day time to spare unsure where to go. You can come here. It is a very small town. I bought the train ticket from Takayama station to here. But make sure you plan it wisely. The train frequency is not that many returning to Takayama station. I think you might need to spend only 3-4hrs max here. (depends on the train schedule) Takayama bus centre sells the package of 2000yen ( includes: bus ride back and fro, 1 cafe and 1 confectionery shop, the museum and festival hall) Depends on you what’s your purpose. I came here 1.5hr before lunchtime, so I prefer to have lunch than others. Train ride to and fro: 480yen Bought my own tickets to museum and festival hall: 800yen I saved some bucks for my lunch! Which I think is worthy. So suggestion you reach here around 11 and leave at 3pm to Takayama station.

We were glad, on hindsight, the bus tickets to Shirakawa-go were sold out and we came here for a day trip instead. The entire place was absolutely beautiful, quiet and devoid (mostly) of tourists. We were lucky to also have soba at the local favorite, Sobasho Nakaya, before taking the 4.10pm train back to Takayama.
