Gakushuin, Principal's Official Residence — Attraction in Inuyama

Gakushuin is Peer School' s Principal's Official Residence. The school was established on Meiji Period. It is important in recent Japan history. It was built in 1909 in Tokyo and the then Principal was Nogi Matesuki. He was a Japanese General in the Imperial Japanese Army of Meiji Period and the third Governor-General of Taiwan. He was the commander of of Japan forces that captured the Port of Arthur in the Russio-Japanese War of 1904-1905. He felt he losed too much soldiers in the said war and requested for suicide but turned down by Emperor Meiji. Subsequently, he became the first Principal of the Peer's School from 1907-1912. He was the mentor of the young Hirohito ( grandson of Emperor Meiji) and was, perhaps, the most important influence on the life of the future emperor of Japan.

犬山市の博物館明治村にある学習院長官舎は、明治42年（1909年）に東京・目白の学習院敷地内に建てられた歴史的建造物です。 当時の学習院院長であった乃木希典が使用していたこの建物は、和洋折衷のデザインが特徴的で、2階建ての洋館と和館が接続された構造となっています。洋館部分は公的なスペースとして執務室や応接室、大広間が配置され、和館部分は私的な生活空間として日本の伝統的な座敷が設けられています。玄関ポーチにはアールヌーボー調の装飾が施され、学習院の校章である桜のデザインがあしらわれています。...
