Nice shrine with nice beach area around it where you can relax, SUP, surf and eat. Read up on the background story to fully appreciate it. Able to get there from Fukuoka by public transport by first taking the orange kuko subway in Fukuoka which changes into JR to Chikuzen and get off at Kyudai-Gakkentoshi. From there you can take the bus from platform 3 (630 ¥ - 45 min), Nishinoura line until the final station. The bus drives along the shore, which gives nice views. From the end station it is a 20 minute walk along the road next to coast line. Its quite a nice beach area with restaurants where you can eat and drink. There was a long line of people, mostly Chinese(?) tourists waiting on line to take the requisite photos. The bus ride from Hakata station is about an hour and twenty minutes and cost about 1500 yen. Nice little scenic out of the way spot that they call Palm Beach (West Coast). There is a cool store there that sells souvenirs, stickers, trinkets, etc. Be careful. Some of the stickers, even the small ones can be pretty pricey - upwards of a thousand yen each. The gelato is very tasty so don't mind the mistake: "cup or corn" (cone).
