Sobachaya is the restaurant that made me love soba. The zarusoba is absolutely delicious but their tempura and tendon dishes are also extremely good. But one of the real gems of eating here is their yaki tamago. It’s their specially prepared Japanese omelette that is unmatched anywhere. I absolutely recommend ordering this side dish to accompany any meal here. It’s worth repeated visits for the yaki tamago alone, but the entire menu is spectacular.
The restaurant doesn’t have an English menu on hand but they provide a QR code to access their online site for the English menu. However, after scanning the code and selecting “English”, I received a “page not found” error. Going back to the homepage I could navigate to the food menu you and it displayed in English. Unfortunately since every class of item is on its own page, it can be cumbersome and time consuming if you’re ordered from different sections of the menu. And, of course, if you don’t have a smartphone or Internet connection, you’re out of luck.
When we went, the restaurant wasn’t very busy but the young man in charge of our area seemed a bit overwhelmed by the number of large parties he had to attend to. Shortly afterwards the dinner rush began and the place filled up. Consider going outside of the traditional eating times if you want to avoid waiting for a seat.
Finally, the atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful. It has a very traditional and old fashioned look, including a waterwheel out front. It’s simple and beautiful place to dine on some expertly prepared classic...
