This art museum is located on a hill and has a wonderful location overlooking Sakurajima. It is a long walk uphill from the nearest bus stop, so unless you take a taxi from Kagoshima Chuo Station, you will be sweaty and unable to appreciate it. We have everything from artists from Kagoshima and pottery from Kagoshima to art from around the world. The annual event that brings together creators from Kagoshima is...

The location is a bit inconvenient however the view is spectacular. It is a relatively small museum but has some great artworks and historical artifacts. I think due to the location the museum barely had any others visitors while we were there so it was an...

Delightful location, great views. Exquisite collection. The Galle glass is amazing. A diverse collection of beautiful work.

The coffee shop is worth a visit. An amazing few hours. Highly recommended.

2022.9.23来訪。 桜島が一望できる立地にあり、その景観が素晴らしい。 館内はテーマに分かれて7室の展示室がある。 展示室1は藤島武二、海老原喜之助などの郷土の画家、2は20世紀のフランス絵画、3はガレなどのガラス工芸、4はなぜか南米の土偶や装飾品、5、6は薩摩焼であり、7は企画展である。 郷土の画家では和田英作の文展出品作品、海老原喜之助のブルーの描写のある「北極」が良い。 フランス絵画では作品数が少ないモディリアーニ、セザンヌの珍しい初期の人物画が見所である。 薩摩焼は白薩摩で描かれている精密な模様の描写が圧巻である。 企画展では所蔵品をセレクトした薩摩焼展が開催されていた。 常設展示とは違い、小物の逸品が観られる。 地方の美術館の魅力はその土地ならではの郷土の画家や作品が観られることであり、その魅力が旅行者の旅路を彩る。 そのような意味においては素晴らしい美術館である。 それにしても、連休初日の午後に来訪したにも関わらず館内には自分一人の貸切状態。その分、気兼ねなく作品との対峙が出来たこの上ない至福の時を過ごすことが出来たが、美術館の運営は大丈夫なのだろうか？といらぬ心配を募らせてしまう。
