巨木が目立つ広大な森で、歩いたのは一部分だけでしたが、メインルートの奥参道を外れると通行人も少なく静かな散策を楽しめました。 植林でない自生した樹木が密生した林を樹叢(じゅそう)と呼ぶそうです。神社境内の鎮守の森は、数百年以上の昔から保護されて伐採や植林がされないそうなので、自生した樹木の林が残る事があるそうです。 鹿島神宮の樹叢は、モミ・スギ・シイ・タブノキ・クスノキ・カシ類などからなる常緑の照葉樹林となっており、県内随一の規模で茨城県指定天然記念物に...

神社にある、とても自然豊かなエリア。大木の存在感は圧巻でした。原生林と言ってもいいような凄さでした。他の神社であれば、御神木と言っても何の問題もないくらいの大木がそこかしこに生えていて、とても癒されました。巨木は本当に最高です。
