北柏駅の北口から徒歩10分ほどで行けるところにあります。駐車場も10台ほど停められるスペースがあります。 ここは河津桜が有名なようで、桜の時期は混雑するようですが、7月に訪れたら誰もいなくて寂しいところでした。
松ヶ崎城跡は、手賀沼を見渡す台地の先端部に造られた戦国時代の中世城跡で、城主は不明ですが、戦国時代の15世紀後半から16世紀前半頃には造られていたと考えられているということが説明板に書いてありました。 ここは、土塁に囲まれた方形単郭の郭を主体に、古墳を転用したとされる櫓台跡や台地斜面には腰曲輪が残されています。この場所が昔は何であったのかを示す案内板は随所にあるものの、城の遺構はあまり残っているとは言えなさそうな印象です。
空堀は浅くて草に覆われていて良く分からない感じでした。一方で、腰曲輪は保存状態が良さそうで、中世の城跡の姿を今に残しているという感じがします。
