We had an amazing experience here. From kawagoe station there is a free shuttle bus for the round trip. The frequency of the bus is not very high in the week days. There are many things we can see here which belongs to samurai. Although there is entry fee but its completely worthy and we can spend as long time as we want. Really...

For ¥100 you can explore a castle, site of a dramatic seige in 1545-6. There's not a lot of information here, especially if you can't read Japanese. 我が国🇯🇵人の心の中には、御城に感銘を受ける処が、御座います。 自分も城好きでして、世界に誇る名だたる名城から、城跡、山城と数多く、拝見させて頂きました。 国宝彦根城・姫路城を代表とします、幾度の修復を重ね、今も観光客、歴史城マニアの方々を興奮させる名城が、全国各地に御座います。 自分の一押しは、「松本城」ですが、本日御紹介させて頂く御城は 歴史上、関東の北の要として、代々の幕府が主きおいた重要な御城で御座います。 ※川越城の建立のあらまし 長禄元年(1457年)に、上杉持朝の命により、家臣の太田道真、道灌親子が、築いたといわれています。 江戸時代には江戸の北の守りとして重要視され、代々幕府の重臣が城主となっています。 現存する建物は嘉永元年(1848)に 建てられたもので、本丸御殿の一部として玄関、大広間、家老詰所が残り、「川越藩十七万石」の風格をしのばせております。 ※「本丸御殿」(県指定文化財)です 住所 〒350−0053 埼玉県川越市郭町2-13 開館日 火曜 水曜 木曜 金曜 土曜 日曜各9:00〜17:00 休館日/月曜日 第４金曜日 年末年始/12月29〜1月3日 入館料 一般￥100(￥80) 高校、大学￥50(￥40) 中学生以下無料 ※( )内は20人以上団体割引料金

川越城は戦国時代初期の15世紀半ば、太田道灌によって古河公方への備えとして築かれたとされているが実態は不明です。 本丸には御殿が一部現存しています。 本丸東の天神曲輪には築城当時から三芳野(みよしの)天神という神社があります。童謡『通りゃんせ』発祥の地と言われています。一般人の参拝も許されてはいたが、外に出る際には厳しい取り調べを受けるそうです。 『行きはよいよい帰りはこわい』とな。 さて、この境内には土塁が一部現存しています。 ここから南西に進むと富士見櫓台があります。天守をもたない川越城の物見として機能しました。どのような構造だったか詳細は分からない。2層とも3層とも言われています。 さて、今度は氷川神社方面に歩いてみます。すると特別支援学校辺りが低地になっており、これは二の丸の外堀跡のようです。 最後に川越城通りを西へ、蔵造りの町並み方面に進みます。すぐに左手に中ノ門堀が確認できます。 現在は堀が一部しかありませんが、当時は３本の堀によってコの字のルートを辿らないと内側に進めないよう施されていたようです。 所々に僅かに遺構が残っており、一つ一つ追っていくと何となくですが全体を想像しやすくなると思います。
