A very nice cinema, but I would really like to know who on earth came up with this abomination that they call "LiveZound". The idea is apparently to let an audio technician fine-tune the movie's audio to bring out the best in the movie, comparable to a live concert performance. As a musician, I thought this was a cool idea at first. But then I watched a movie here, and oh boy was I wrong.
First of all, most cinemas who upgrade their systems invest in Dolby Atmos, which I have yet to find in this cinema. Second, the whole concept of LiveZound goes against everything that movie makers are trying to achieve. Movie producers sit in their studios for hundreds of hours to make a movie sound as good as possible, and as close as possible to what the director had in mind. Granted, the result is not always perfect, but the general idea of a cinema should be to take the work of the world's best producers and reproduce it as well as possible. LiveZound claims to improve the work of the producers, and this idea is just ridiculous. They don't have the source material, so the most they can possibly do is some EQ and effect work. But this is usually limited to removing interferences of the room acoustics. You shuold not try and improve an already finished audio track with these techniques, no well-trained audio technician in their right mind would actually support this idea. Third, the actual viewing experience was so loud that I regretted not bringing along earplugs. This is an accepted volume level for live concerts, because the drums and the guitars are just too loud to begin with, but there is no reason to damage people's ears in a movie theater. The standard theater volume is already quite loud, but this was just plain unpleasant and made it impossible for me to...
Read moreWhen I lived in Kawasaki, I went to that theater occasionally as a loyal customer. That means me, supporting their business with my money. In true hall monitor fashion, the next time I arrived to see another movie, before buying my ticket I was actually stopped and they told me that I needed to remove any garbage from food packages and take it with me from the theater after the movie ends. OK, so I understand that in Japan, if you drop something while watching a movie, their theater workers seem to not be the ones who clean the theater ( making me wonder what exactly their job is, perhaps its hall monitor )-- that its up to the patrons to do it. Like paying inflated prices to watch a movie there is not enough, we have to make sure we dont leave any garbage items behind. OK, I can accept that, however much I disagree with it. Its a different country, a different culture, they dont believe in garbage cans and prefer carrying around their trash whereever they go. This was not so much a problem. What was a problem was that I wore a mask each time I went. How did they know I was the one to single out? This is very creepy. Bordering on stalking behavior. Anyone going to Japan should expect to be filmed surrepticiously and have their image analyzed with AI and god forbid if you drop a wrapper, you will be stopped and reprimanded. Pretty sick stalking culture they have here. Needless to say, I refuse to support such a business who does not appreciate their customers, and never went back. Better to go to one of the other theaters in Kawasaki Lazona like...
