Shin means new. If you want to take shinkansen to Tokyo or another prefecture in Japan, you can go to shin-Kobe station. You can directly go to the shinkansen line or have the reservation seat first at the JR office on the station. If you do not have the reservation, you have to notice which car (Gerbong kereta) that provide the unreservation passanger. You need to see the running text LED display the information of that. If you lost the train, you can wait for the next train... so dont worry. The think that we need to do as the new comer in Japan is stay awake.. wkwkw and read every sign, then you will get familiar with it. Or you can ask the officer. They will help you, some of them can understand english, though sometimes they could not reply you in english.

A really special Shinkansen centric station. Due to space limit, there is only one platform each way. This makes transferring between trains of the same direction super easy, just get off, wait and enter. Especially for travelers who use JR Pass and travels between Kyushu/Chugoku and Kyoto/Nagoya/Tokyo regions. Plus you also get to see a lot of Shinkansen trains because of the frequency. Seems like the ekibens are not really special. And the station itself is quite old. Also seems like it is kinda hard to access Kobe and you might be better off transferring to Limited express trains in Osaka instead.

Well connected to they city center by taking a short metro trip but prepare to walk a lot as the metro station is not immediately adjacent to the Shinkansen station. A massive shortage of storage space. If you don't secure your locker early in the morning, good luck. You won't find any and the car rental office that usually provides luggage storage services is also always full. Don't count on finding empty lockers in Sannomiya either. Just deal with it, you will have to lug your luggage around unless you are an early bird.

shinkansen train station. I can't find the train lines that connect to the station. Quite a difficult journey. and all the stations have almost no internet, which is extremely inconvenient for a tourist like me, who can't find trains and routes! Internet is quite a luxury at JR stations!
