Washuzan Highland is a place that's hard to explain. When you first approach, you're greeted warmly by aging rainbow stairs. As you leave the nearly empty parking lot behind and pass through the friendly gates of this park, you'll be amazed.
Amazed at how empty, friendly, lush, and decrepit it all appears.
The roller-coasters at this park look like they haven't had a coat of paint in 20 years. I'm convinced two of them are actually standing but not operating (the Ultratwister and the Chuppy Coaster). I actually saw a ride that wasn't listed on the map anymore, peering out of the overgrowth as it is slowly swallowed whole by Mother Nature.
The views here are outstanding. The food is pretty good. The samba dancers are friendly and lively.
The rides didn't kill me. They sure looked like they could, but they were pretty fun.
The arcade appears to be decomposing.
The pool, surrounded by aging and faded slides, glistens with crystal clear water in the afternoon sun.
As you pull yourself up the worn and weary paths of this mountain-side park, the beautiful views will leave you breathless.
For a moment, you'll think you're in paradise, until you catch a glimpse of another rust-covered machine, hurtling those with gambling hearts straight toward the sun.
You're not in paradise. You're in a dystopia.
But a surprisingly fun one.
This place is unique. It's worth seeing. It's worth saving.
For all its quirks and obvious flaws, Washuzan Highland should be on your list of...

Extremely difficult theme park to go to. It's so out of your way I don't know why any normal person would come all the way here. I am not normal.
This park is a Brazilian themed extravaganza! First a visual. Think of what an amusement park would look like the day after a zombie apocalypse ended IF that park decided to reopen without doing any renovations whatsoever. Got that image? Great! Having troubles visualizing my explanation? Then come on down the the Washuzan Highland and see for yourself!
The rides were run down and falling apart but we're surprisingly very safe. Not sure that makes sense. You can bungee jump for under $20 USD which you can't beat. The main reason we came was because there is this ride you peddle a shady bike on a roller coaster!! It's so damn scary, if you're afraid of heights. Theres this ghetto looking belt buckle thing you click around your waist. Looks like it was ripped from an old used car seat. We did it during sunset and the views were fantastic. Hard to explain you just have to go try it out for yourself.
All in all your trip to Japan can do with or without this park. I kinda wish we did bunny island instead. We were pressed on time and had to choose one. Oh and be careful with the shuttle to the train station schedule. Read it before entering the park so you know when to leave. ...
Read moreIf I could put less than 1 star I would. It's the worst amusement park I've ever been to. I wonder why it's still in operation? Rusty rollercoasters, half of them is not working, damn boring show with samba-dancers, this is what you get paying 3800 for adults. It is not just a waste of your money and time but feeling of sadness and bad mood for the rest of the day.
And the main problem was that our tickets bought through Agoda were not accepted with the staff even claiming they were fake. If Agoda, a reputable company, is selling tickets for your park without authorization and you don't do anything about it, you are also responsible.
Food in park is expensive and horrible.
And about so-called contact zoo. Poor animals in there, I was almost crying watching a half-bald rabbit that doesn't seem to be fed properly. No one takes good care of these suffering pets.
But what makes the park even worse is lines for each attraction because the staff are doing their job in a very slow pace.
Overall impression: park needs to retire as soon as possible. Even for free it would be a...
