Located next to some other museums, if it's worth visiting this museum will depend on your interests and specifically the special exhibition. The permanent exhibitions is really just local artists mainly since 1860 onwards. Let's just say it was not my favourite art exhibit. However, they currently have an exhibit on Gunkajima or Hashima island which I thought was outstanding. Others might not like it as much as I did. At least the staff are very friendly...

Some interesting pieces of art, but not a very large collection. If your average national art museum is 1000yen for admisson, the 300yen admission price here...

入船山記念館に隣接する呉市立美術館。建物の外観も内装も、そして美術館前の通りの雰囲気も趣のある落ち着いたもので、絵画、彫刻、陶芸など、どのジャンルの美術品でも立派な展示会が開けそうな、素敵な美術館です。 しかし今回の特別展は「138億光年宇宙の旅」。ほかの都市なら科学博物館のような場所で開催されるようなテーマで、少し違和感があったのは事実です。 しかし会場に並ぶ多数の写真を見て印象が変わりました。 惑星探査機が撮影した火星や木星、土星などの表面写真。ハッブル宇宙望遠鏡などで撮影された星団、星雲、そして系外銀河の写真・・　どれも下手な抽象絵画など足元にも及ばないような迫力あるシーンの連続で、第一級の「美術品」としても十分鑑賞に堪えるものです。 ちょっとレトロな美術館にこういう最先端の展示も悪くないな、と認識を新たにしました。

呉駅から歩くと約1キロ 少しアクセスが悪いですね 駐車場は美術館の向かいにありますが 市民広場を利用する人達も利用するので 空いてない場合もあります 美術館は 入船山記念館と同じ敷地内にあり 古い建物ですが綺麗に整えられています 広島や大きな都市のように 集客のある展示はありませんが 今回は宇宙の写真という 珍しいジャンルの展示であったので 来てみました 写真は最新のものではないですが 見るだけで宇宙に引き込まれてました 一部禁止されている展示もありましたが 基本撮影OKでした 美術館を訪れた観光客の方には 入船山記念館や 美術館前の歩道にあるマンホールを 楽しんで頂きたいです
