To be quite honest, I can’t say Jonan-gu is anywhere on my list of the best shrines in Kyoto. The entrance fee is relatively expensive for the size of the park. Compared to other places in Kyoto, I found this one rather unimpressive. Although beautiful, you can see much better architecture and landscaping at other shrines with a much lower (or nonexistent) entry fee.
However, I visited just as the sakura bloom was ending. I bet it’s a much better experience in different months, though; I’d only recommend you to pay this shrine a visit when the flowers are blooming.

The food was ok on average, except for deep fried chicken (karaage) that was soaked in oil (Too oily for karaage).
Stuff is not welcoming and hard catch.
We had a hair in our sake cup! Of course, they change it.
The check is also too high for the amount and quality of food, I am not even saying about the quality of service.

Famous for hanging plum blossoms so elegant in their spring colors of white, pink and red. 600 yen admission is well worth it as the garden extends beyond plum gardens to include traditional Zen garden and water-scapes with fancy koi as well as a tea house serving matcha.
