Saishōinokunoin Temple — Attraction in Kyoto

This is a very nice small shrine that is about a 10 min walk from Nanzen-ji Temple. You can also access this shrine via the Kyoto trail that starts after Misasagi Station (Tozei line) but its difficult to navigate and is not an easy hike. Also its important to note that this is not the Okunoin Temple that is in Wakayama. Others have posted the Gokusho Offering Hall which lies near a row of statues. A short hike from the main temple that is filled with tranquility, magic and mystery! Heard an animal growling sound resembling that of a tiger or lion, coming from a rock next to me before approaching the steps leading up to the cave. This is a small and secluded shrine located inside the forest behind Nanzen-ji Temple. This shrine is known as the waterfall shrine. As you walk through the forest you'll find many large spiders which was kind of scary but also cool. It's about a 15 minute walk from Nanzen-ji temple and you'll need to climb up stairs to get here.
