We had a great time staying at Azukiya in late Aug! It is just a few minutes walk from the Keage subway stop, with easy access to the nearby Nanzenji temple; even without subway, it is a pleasant walk back from the Gion area. Chieko is super friendly and helpful. This is a perfect combination of traditional Kyoto house with a beautiful little garden, and DELICIOUS breakfasts (both Japanese and Western breakfasts are amazing, with many creative dishes and perhaps the most generous serving of fruits we had in Japan :D, we particularly loved the home-made tofu and smoothie, chocolate cake, matcha latte and coffee were all wonderful). You will sleep on Futons and even if it is located on a busy road, rooms (we slept in every room during our 2 stays) are very quiet thanks to the sliding walls. Location is very central and within walking distance from many restaurants and touristic sites. ||But what makes Azukya unique is its host Chieko.||She is simply awesome: not only your room will be nicely prepared, but she will cook delicious breakfasts (traditional Japanese or Western alternatively), and last but not least she will help you with dinner options, reservations or sightseeing.
