Came here on a Saturday with my husband and thought by coming at 1020, we'd be the first in line- nope! There were already 7-10 people lined up! By the time 1100 came, the queue probably had around 25 people. I'm glad we came when we did because we were the last group to get a table (in that first round). The staff were so friendly and helpful, and they gave us an English menu. We both ordered the beef curry udon and a side of rice- woooow, so delicious! The udon had a stew consistency and was very filling. The rice was also flavourful and tasted good on its own and with the curry. Our meal came to ¥2130, which was a steal of a deal. Definitely worth lining up for!

Visited on 21/3/2024. It was a cold and rainy day, but despite that there was a queue. Waited 40 mins to get in (the host closed the queue behind us as they shut down at 3 PM, so make sure to visit early). There were multiple options for vegeterians and the staff understood the dietary requirements. The amazing smell while standing in the queue will work up an appetite. The portion was big and fulfilling. The balance of spices, texture and ingredients was perfect (you can customize each of these). Its a must visit for your trip to philosopher’s path/Nanzen-ji

This is a nice spot along the Philospher’s Path for lunch. Queue is long, generally around 45-60 minutes wait during lunch. The udon is good, soup curry is less common type of udon soup, as is kuzuankake style. Both are delightful. Bonus for me was that Japanese drama series WHAT DID YOU EAT YESTERDAY (kinou nani wo tabeta) filmed here for their special episode (more like a movie) when the characters took a trip from Tokyo to Kyoto, so there are autograph boards from the actors as well as other Japanese celebrities.

The best udon I’ve ever had in my life. We walked in and noticed that there were a lot of locals, so we know it’s not a tourist trap restaurant. We ordered the shrimp pot udon and the beef/tofu curry udon. They are known for the curry udon and it was delicious! It’s not too heavy or thick where you’ll get sick of it and we mixed the soup with rice after eating the noodles. The shrimp tempura udon is deep in flavor and is for those who enjoy a typical udon bowl. I highly recommend this place!
