Good value, but not worth the 3 hr wait -
Food: 3 stars Price: 4 stars Service: 4 stars Ambiance: 2 stars Overall: 3.25 stars
Food: The curry udon was good, but I was really disappointed because my expectation was really high after waiting there for like 3 hrs.. It was sakusa season (April) and many people were there. This store is popular, so that was somewhat expected.. It was just that you'd expect it to be much more tasty after you've standing under the sun for like 3 hrs (ugh!)
There were some pieces of meat, veggie, and bean curd in there.. Majority of the udon soup is just the curry soup itself. My husband ordered a large one because he was really hungry, but he couldn't finish in the end..
Price: The curry udon soup was like 850 yen, so it's actually not bad. It's probably another reason why people were willing to line up though..
Service: There were seats for customers to sit close to the restaurant entrance, so that means you can sit down after you've wait there for like 2.5 hr (LOL). They provide a box on the seat for you to store your bags. They gave us water and tea as soon as we sat down as well.
Oh, they have a really nice English menu with pictures. The regular menu doesn't have pictures on there, so many Japanese wanted to see the English menu as well XD
Ambiance: It was really hard to determine the ambiance because everyone had been waited for a long time, so it was rather strange.. Also there was only one bathroom, so you have to wait forever as well.. You really can't relax and eat when there were so many people waiting for you to finish your food..
Overall: I think it's a good value, but it's not worth waiting for 3 hrs. 1 hr is fine, but not 3... Also come here before you go to any high end restaurants.. I've gone to the high end unagi place before this, and I was really...
Read moreCame here on a Saturday with my husband and thought by coming at 1020, we'd be the first in line- nope! There were already 7-10 people lined up! By the time 1100 came, the queue probably had around 25 people. I'm glad we came when we did because we were the last group to get a table (in that first round).
The staff were so friendly and helpful, and they gave us an English menu. We both ordered the beef curry udon and a side of rice- woooow, so delicious! The udon had a stew consistency and was very filling. The rice was also flavourful and tasted good on its own and with the curry.
Our meal came to ¥2130, which was a steal of a deal. Definitely worth...
Read moreReally delicious udon! I ate here at around 12:45pm before heading out onto the Philosopher's Path. It was fairly busy but worth the wait! Sit outside until there is a table free for you and the staff wave you in. They have an English menu and many dishes available. I got the udon with tempura prawn and egg and it was incredibly good, probably one of the best meals I've had in Japan. The food did take quite a while to come out after ordering but the restaurant was pretty busy and a large party had come in just before me so that is probably why. Overall I highly recommend it if you are in the area looking for a...
