They're awfully proud of being a museum that showcases bricks 🧱 and bricks only. Give it a chance and you'll see why.

Whatever you thought you needed to know about bricks 🤔🧱, they have it.

How bricks are made? Why bricks are important to civilized societies? Which famous architectural buildings around the world 🌎 feature bricks? Which famous Japanese buildings are made of bricks? Why bricks are the size that they are right now? What are the different ways to lay bricks to build a wall? What are the different brick related puzzles like tangrams you could play ▶️ with?

All in all, a wonderful place to learn a whole lot more about this...

An oddly interesting museum in the coastal town where Japan's Coast Guard members receive their training. It has a showcase of famous historical buildings from around the world that used brick as a primary building material (with samples); well-known structures within Japan; and a collection of bricks from historical event structures like the Berlin wall, Auschwitz, Philadelphia Hall, etc. Better than we expected. Built in an old navy warehouse once used to store torpedoes. Other buildings on the grounds are being converted into shops and...

Unusual little find. We are from Portsmouth which is twinned with Maizuru as we donated a brick from Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. As we were in the area, we though it fitting to go and find this brick.

Quite a quirky little museum, it has bricks from all over the world, and also from significant historical buildings such as Auschwitz. Would have stayed longer if...

Interesting museum close to the harbor! It shows a lot of history about red brick buildings around the world as well as Maizuru as Naval Base City in Japan. Tips: buy a Maizuru One Day Pass for 1,000¥ and you can freely enter public places, including this museum, plus return by bus on certain routes.
