Highly recommend visiting this remnant of the Nagasaki atomic bomb (it's free). The staff is very passionate and will take you through the displays, especially if you understand a bit of Japanese. Even if you don't, there is a QR code with English translations if they're not already included in the displays. You learn about the school staff and students that were at the school at the time of the bombing, what life was like after the bombing, as well as what they're doing in present day to keep the history alive with the next generation. It was touching to see the cultural exchanges with school kids from other countries.
The third floor is currently under restoration and may be accessible in about 2 years time. You can view its current state via a QR code.
Note there is a slope around the corner that you can walk up instead...
