Actually a nice spot for cliff jumping (heights only 3-7m though). I went on a public holiday so it was a little crowded, but If you follow the tourists from the station down to the river, you will see, most of them just stay right at the "pier". It is a nice area and I think you could also do a 3m and 5m jump there, but I left the people behind and followed the river upstream. Where it makes an s-turn around a small island, there is a nice jump spot 3 to 6m. The rafting boats will cheer for you. Takeoffs are slightly tilted - i am pretty sure you can also find the spot in a YouTube video. 200-300m further upstream there is a little higher spot. You have to swim across the river (check depth, there is only one landing zone where the water is deep enough, I think), climb up the cliffs on the other side. The jump has a really good take off and almost no gap though. Unfortunately I found no...
Read moreRiver boating has been enjoyed in Nagatoro since the beginning of the 20th century, and is one of the town's major attractions, bringing in 200,000 visitors a year. Ride a boat handled by a skilled boatman and view the gorgeous valley that is a natural monument while cruising down powerful rapids and gentle currents. River cruises are made on tourist boats that carry around 20 passengers and are driven by two men with long poles. They travel along high rock walls and through some choppy and exciting waters. At the end of the trip downriver, passengers are taken by bus back to downtown Nagatoro. The boats are lifted from the river by crane and transported back to the starting point by truck. These boats are built to go down the river, they cannot make the trip back alone.
Tickets : Available in front of the train station and at the...
Read moreThe town is quite small with only a few interesting souvenir shops. The river area is quite beautiful but for me the real gem was the maple tree park beside the river. Quite spectacular and colourful. Highly recommended. The boat ride down the river was nice but not excellent. There was some commentary along the way but, honestly, it's just a short section of an unspectacular river. I might recommended it to people who have never seen a...
