This one is somewhat similar to Wooden station in Victoria. I mean the "historic look". Wooden sta. first opened in July 1861. Nikko sta. opened in August 1890. We took basic JR Nikko Line train to visit this beautiful area. The train itself & station both were clean & not crowded at all. 5 mins before the train arrived terminal, we're three persons left. I noticed a Japanese woman stood alone hiding her face towards the wall. She cried. We couldn't pass her to exit without saying something. The tears were all over her face. We offered helping her suitcase down the platform. Then we exitted station & sat on one of outdoor bench looking to the bus stop. We told her that she could sit for a while to pass the stress. She thanked with broken English, telling us that she missed her ex-husband. They shared lovely memoirs in Nikko for many years. She really looked heart broken. We said good-bye when her bus arrived. Read moreStation is clean. There aren’t any eating places at the station. If there was a bento station there, it would do extremely well. I would recommend picking up lunch before you board the train from Nikko. The place and the surrounding shops also close between 5:30 and 6:00 so don’t delay purchasing any snacks or drinks for your train ride back. If you order a Nikko pass, it’s worth upgrading the seats to purchase the Direct line back.
