I think that my experience in the Meiji Yakata Cake Shop was the only sad and bad one in Nikko. I am French and I cannot speak Japanese freely in a complicated manner. So I tried to ask if I can only have one part of cheesecake instead of the whole cake. I was welcomed with mocking snorts and giggles from the waitresses and they just told me to buy the whole cake. I am very sad, because local people in Nikko where very welcoming and polite excepts them. I was ashamed to try to speak Japanese. They even give me the package while giggling.
