Stillness fills the air with creativity.
I loved this place. While wandering around the local area l came across the museum.
It's absolutely beautiful, l was the only person visiting so had the place to myself.
I really enjoyed exploring the house and felt at ease. There is a musical instrument that you can kneel down and play. (l tried to find out what it's called.)
I sat in the ground enjoying the silence and the nature of the museum. It's full of history and well worth a visit.
Has limited parking, toilet and a shop, also free tea you can sit and take in the atmosphere. We'll worth a visit.
I wasn't allowed to take photos, so will post some of the local surroundings so you get the feel of the atmosphere of the area thus building quietly sits.
Ps... There are lots of local gardens open...
Read moreI hesitated at first to pay the 300 yen admission, but it was well worth it. This is a small part of the family estate of the man who was Hokusai's patron and an accomplished artist in his own right. The grounds are small but well-kept, the small collection of artwork is interesting, and the building that served as his study is wonderful to explore. Doesn't take a whole lot of time either, so convenient to fit into a...

The museum is housed in the former private residence of Takai Kozan, a wealthy merchant from Obuse Village who studied in Kyoto and Edo (now Tokyo) from the age of 15 and had a wide variety of friendships and cultural backgrounds. Visitors can view materials that show his interaction with Katsushika Hokusai, with whom he had a close relationship as a patron. On the second floor of his private residence, there is a room where he is said to have held discussions with Sakuma Shozan, and one cannot help but wonder what kind of heated debates they had while feeling the breath of history. A combined ticket that includes the Hokusai Museum, the Obuse Museum, and the Senba Nakajima Museum is...
