If you like Japan, like I do, then you probably have heard of the "One-eyed Dragon", Masamune Date. This museum is located inside the Aoba Castle Ruin itself, and is designed to help you understand more about Masamune Date and his homebase, the Aoba Castle, built wonderfully on the side of Aoba Mountain, but unfortunately destroyed through fire and war.
The Aoba Castle Museum was informative, and the artifacts kept there are valuable, incuding a pair of katanas used by Masamune himself! In addition, the VR tour and the Cinema inside the Museum was both interesting, fun, and informative. Regrettably though, the language is JAPANESE ONLY, so you must understand Japanese to enjoy it. Don't worry though, as I have put in a feedback for our English-speaking community, and they received it positively.
All of the above would have guaranteed a Four-star review from me (largely because there was no English for the tours, so non-Japaneses may not be able to enjoy it). However, what elevated my review to Five Stars was how enthusiastic and energetic the employees there were! The Museum staff, Ms. Sachiyo Ono-san, although knows very little English, used google translate's voiceover system to communicate to me thoroughly, making sure an amateur Japanese-speaker like myself could understand the museum's function, history, and artifacts! The VR staff, Mr. Yoshihiro Osawa-san, was very careful to make sure we know how to use the VR, and even followed us during the first steps of the tour, to make sure we know where to go, and to make sure we do not fall while using the equipment. Their dedication, which were all inspired by the love of Masamune Date and the pride of Sendai, were very touching. I sincerely hope that the management of the museum reads this review, and rewards their dedicated employees so that they can retain them and their enthusiasm!
Whenever you go to Japan, you always think of Tokyo or Kyoto. But recently, the people of Sendai is promoting their tourism industry, basing on their love of Masamune Date. Pay Sendai a visit, go to the Aoba Castle and its Museum to know how much he has dedicated his life to building Sendai, and you won't be disappointed! (Plus, as the time of my writing, the Japanese Government is providing FREE TOURIST VISA PROCESSING FEE if you...

It's one very small, cluttered room with mostly laquerware and a few very large but not very interesting dioramas. Even if you can speak Japanese or use translate, there's not much information and it's not very interesting. Compare this to the Sendai City Museum which is less money for a huge exhibit with a ton of information and much more interesting anecdotes. This overpriced ticket has 4 armors and one sword, whereas the city museum has armors, a whole room of swords, a ton of art and ceramics, etc. The gift shop is 50% generic snacks that look like they don't sell quickly, 25% made in China crap that has nothing to do with the place like skeleton hand back scratchers, and 25% interesting but overpriced Date motif stuff. If you look at my pictures, you've seen everything worth looking at. Compared to other museums in sendai and Japan in general, this place should be ashamed. Also, handicap inaccessible (stairs down to exit) and no...
