Shirahama Central Beach — Attraction in Shimoda

Rating not for the beach itself (it looked beautiful) but for the fact that it is impossible to find parking in the afternoon. Every parking space closes at 4 or 5pm. And this is in peak summer – early August where the sun is harsh the entire day and it‘s 35°C! We arrived just before 4pm and drove to several parking spots and everyone said no. We found one that would take us but only for an hour and only for the full fee. We wanted to swim but the situation was so ridiculous we had to give up on the idea. I’m sure there are plenty of people that want to be on the beach under less harsh sun but unless you‘re staying in the area, don’t even think about it. Come...

I generally avoid this beach since it's way too crowded on weekends or obon season. However if you visit it on a non-weekend day, it's not too bad. The water is clear and you can easily get drinks and food from nearby convenient stores. People watching is a scene...
