📍Nagase House 長瀬家

823-2 Ogimachi, Shirakawa, Ono District, Gifu 501-5627, Japan

The Nagase House is a significant historical site located in the village of Ogimachi, part of Shirakawa-go in Gifu Prefecture. This house, built in the traditional Gassho-zukuri architectural style, stands out as the tallest of its kind in the area with five stories. Gassho-zukuri houses are known for their steep thatched roofs, designed to withstand heavy snowfall.

Constructed in 1890, the Nagase House features a large Buddhist altar, traditional furniture, and artworks on the first floor. The upper floors exhibit tools and items related to the daily lives of the Nagase family, who have lived in the house for over 250 years. The family initially served as personal doctors to the Maeda family during the Edo period, and the house displays various medical instruments...

There was a one page handout when you buy your 600yen ticket. I would love to have understood what I was looking at in the house and known more about past...

The house showcases a wide range of tools and artifacts used in daily life, offering a unique and insightful look into Japan’s cultural history.

It was a truly captivating experience that I highly recommend for anyone interested in learning about traditional...
