I have been to Shirakawa-go twice this year and one of the highlights of my visit is eating here! First of all the food is so delicious and fresh, almost all the dishes are sourced from the village so it feels super authentic and nice, its difficult to explain it, you have to try it out yourself but its truly wonderful! You taste the freshness and care in each dish! I tried the hida beef set and the chicken set and everything was very good, from the slow cooking protein to the wonderful river fish to the sizzling soba, plus you can have free rice refills if you order the set! The atmosphere and décor of the shop is also very awesome, it's super old school and relaxing at the same time, there are regular tables and there are Japanese style sit down tables as well so you can experience the best of both worlds! The service is beyond amazing, I came here with my father who has gluten allergy and even though my Japanese is very limited the staff went far and beyond to explain to me which menu options were gluten free and they made me feel very welcomed. Overall, this is a MUST try if you come to Shirakawa, I don't care if you don't like Japanese food or if you you have another place in mind, make space for Irori! Trust me it's worth every Yen! I myself will be back again in winter and I look forward to trying...
Read moreProbably the best restaurant in terms of value, taste and experience in Shirakawago. It is well situated near the bus terminal, and hence there is quite a wait during lunchtime. Good thing is there is a proper queue system where you put down your name and number of pax and a kind Japanese lady will call you in once it is your turn. There is also a long bench for you to sit and wait.
The interior feels traditional, there is even a tatami area where you will need to take off your shoes. There is also a normal table and chairs area. I went with the popular Hida beef with miso paste set and added a beef croquette, total was around 2300Y which I felt was well priced. There isn’t a lot of beef but it was good quality and tasted and looked fantastic. The beef itself is served raw and you will need to wait 5-10 mins to let it fully cook along with the veg and mushroom. Aside from the hotpot, the set includes what I believe to be fermented fish, pickles, sweet cooked beef, tofu, rice and soba.
If you need to have lunch in this village, definitely...
Read moreThr first restaurant you can find after you get off from the bus in Shirakawa go. They have hida beef fmous type of beef offer in gifu pref and hoba miso. Aside from that they offer Udon and Soba dish.
If you will go there during winter, make sure dont stand or wait under the roof since the accumulated snow may suddenly drop at you (you dont want to be an instant snow man).
The menu is with English translation so it is easy to choose.
I can say the set meal is a very healthy well balance meal with unlimited rice and tea the preice is reasonable.
Inside the place is very warm and cozy specially for winter. Maybe it will takes time before you can get inside to eat since I said it is the first restaurant near the bus station so automatically after arriving past 12 people will...
