Karyudo — Restaurant in Shirakawa

I ordered a burger set because I saw other customers eating it and liked how it looked. But my set came with a generous splash of ketchup (but... why?!) over meat and green beans which tasted awful. Other customers who also didn’t speak Japanese but looked Asian got freshly grated daikon on top of their meat which I would absolutely prefer and which I actually expected. Secondly, I had about 20 minutes before heading back to the bus terminal, so I decided to order a matcha set which took them exactly 18 minutes to prepare — longer than to cook my burger set! — so I had only 2 minutes to eat it. Of course, I didn’t finish it. By the way, guests who were seated after me received their main dishes and desserts simultaneously, and their matcha set came before mine, even though after 10 min of waiting I said to the waitress that I had to go soon. Generally, the burger set could have been good if it wasn’t spoiled with ketchup (yuk, ), and the matcha set would be delicious if only I could actually try it. We were looking for a place to eat while being in Shirakawa-go and we have the fortune to find Karyudo. The ambient is very home like and calm. The food was simply amazing. We ordered the burger set and the meat just simply melts in your mouth 🤤. For dessert we had dango sets and the combination of both sweet and salty was incredible. This place complemented perfectly my trip to the village....

I stumbled across this place by accident when walking around Shirakawa on a very wet Tuesday. The lady running the place was very friendly and accommodating , and although I was by myself she gave me a seat beside two older ladies.

I ordered the pork with rice. The food quality was excellent , it was very nicely presented and also very affordable.
