Kitasenju Station — Attraction in Tokyo

As a place to catch trains I acknowledge that there are trains here, so I can't justify dropping it below three stars, but it's still a terrible station. Spread out all over the place, including vertically, with exits that are hard to find and I almost never manage to get on the right platform the first time. Some platforms even have different trains depending on which part of a long platform you're standing on. Useless signs (regardless of which language you prefer) and bad directions, even when you ask for help from the staff. My Japanese isn't that bad, but gawd save you if you're a tourist trying to figure out this place. If you have to change trains in this station you better add 30 minutes padding to your trip. I should add a disclaimer that commuters must get used to it.

Convenient with easy directions to get to tobu limited express. There are restaurants and a family mart during wait time.

If you are heading to nikko, best to book tobu limited express online days in advance for the time you want. I came the day of and my preferred time was full but luckily there was a next train with a few seats left. I traveled solo so it wasn’t a problem for me but bigger groups might have trouble if you are visiting nikko spontaneously.

Go down to the platform and walk to the kiosks to buy tickets. There are language options. It is only one way, cannot buy round trip here. My visa didn’t work so I used cash. Then to the right, there’s an entrance to the specific platform. Fyi: You need to pay the base fare (with an Ic Card is fine) and PAY additional for the tobu limited...

[Convenient station, deep surroundings] The area around Kitasenju Station is dotted with quite sophisticated bars and adult information centers. Especially at night, you'll need to be prepared for the atmosphere.

However, the station itself is peaceful and has an easy-to-use environment.

I remember walking home from this station when I lived in Iriya. In contrast to the deep atmosphere around the station at night, the interior of the station is normal and calm.
