The vegetation is lush, but it feels more natural than other places. It's supposed to be a waterside observation park, but it seems that American crayfish are breeding, so we were asked for help in exterminating them! They came to Japan as food for bullfrogs or toads, but after a few of them escaped, they spread all over the country in the blink of an eye, which is scary! 植物が鬱蒼としているが、他の場所よりは自然を感じられる。水辺観察園との事だが、アメリカザリガニが繁殖しているようで駆除の協力お願いもあった！奴らはウシガエル？ヒキガエル？のエサとして来日したが、数匹逃げてから瞬く間に全国に広がったから恐ろしいですね！

元々は三宝寺池の一部でした。この場所は大正時代に日本で初めての100mプールが作られた後、釣り堀になり、そして平成元（1989）年に水辺観察園になったとのことです。なるほど、紆余曲折あるものなのですね。 目的は水辺植物や昆虫、野鳥によるビオトープの形成・維持だそうです。ビオトープとして見た場合、こちらの水辺観察園は比較的規模が大きいですが、同じ石神井公園内の野草観察園にも、本当に小さな、ビオトープがあります。 ※ビオトープ・・・生物群集の生態系を指し、生物が自然な状態で生息している空間の意味もあります。日本語に訳すと「生物空間」という意味合いが適切なようです。このため、餌を与えるなどの行為は慎まなければなりません。
