The Central Mosque is one of the largest mosques in ALMATY & KAZAKHSTAN too with a capacity for 7000 worshippers. Built on the site of the old mosque which caught fire in 1987. ( The name of the earlier mosque was Tatar Mosque ). The architects of the project were Baimagambetov, Sharapiev and Zharylgapov. The large dome is decorated with Koranic ayats performed by Turkish calligraphers. Originally, the mosque had a simple blue dome. In 2006, the main dome was decorated with ceramic tiles with floral ornaments. In 2010-2011, the ceramic tiles were replaced with a coating of gold plates. The prayer hall has a beautiful CARPET. On December 22, 2006, the National Bank of Kazakhstan depicted the mosque on a limited-edition 500-tenge coin of sterling silver in order to promote a broader understanding of the entire culture of Kazakhstan, to promote the presentation of religion as a peaceful doctrine of the spiritual and moral self-improvement of the individual. The Central Mosque is a must visit if you are in Almaty. It is a blissful experience. Preetam.✨

Last year I visit here. Almaty Central Mosque is one of the most beautiful and significant religious landmarks in Kazakhstan. The mosque’s stunning architecture, with its grand golden dome and intricate Islamic patterns, makes it a must-visit site for both worshippers and tourists. The atmosphere inside is peaceful and welcoming, offering a serene space for prayer and reflection. The mosque is well-maintained, with clean prayer halls and well-organized facilities. The call to prayer resonates beautifully throughout the area, creating a truly spiritual experience. Located in the heart of Almaty, the mosque is easily accessible and serves as a center of faith and culture for the local Muslim community. Whether you’re visiting for religious purposes or to admire the exquisite design, Almaty Central Mosque is a place that leaves a lasting impression. #mankitravel

Central Mosque is located in the central part of the city, just a block from the Green Bazaar towards Sayakhat bus station (to the north). The building has beautiful, tall minarets with golden domes. It has the big inner yard that also contains a small park as well as some other buildings, such as for the mosque administration and charity. Tourists are welcome to come in to see the interior of prayers rooms. It is open most of the time during the day, and most likely has lots of visitors gathering on Fridays, so it's better be visited all other days during the daytime hours. If you are in the Green Bazaar, walk down the Pushkin street till Mametova street to reach it, it is a few minutes walk.

We came to pray the Friday prayer. It's highly recommended that you come at least 45 minutes to an hour before the prayer scheduled time as it gets very packed. We arrived around 10 minutes before the call for prayer. The women's praying area inside the mosque was blocked by men who lined up outside of it and all around the mosque. Also, make sure to bring a rug with you in case you can't make it to the inside of the masjid. The building of the masjid is gorgeous with the incredible golden domes!

The Central Almaty Mosque is located some 10 min walk north from the Green Bazaar. Its golden dome along with golden topped minarets are visible from afar. It was built in the 90's right after gaining independence, all in white marble. Currently, it's the biggest Mosque in Kazakhstan with space for around 7.000 people. Mosque is free to enter, even to non Muslims with respecting their rules. Very nice interior
