Latgale Zoo — Attraction in Daugavpils

Don't trust the 5 star reviews if you are a good person!! People leaving these reviews only care about entertaining their children and know nothing about caring for animals.

Do not contribute to this zoo!!! This zoo does not respect animal welfare at all, and seems to be just a money grab for families looking to entertain their children. No concept of happiness for any animals it seems.

1. two bunnies in a smaller space than a cage meant for one bunny from a pet store.
2. many bats kept in a small space with BRIGHT LIGHTS and no space to fly.
3. flying squirrels, again no space to fly.
4. monkeys just laying on the ground doing nothing and covering their faces from people.
5. hay that is used for monkeys, meerkats etc. is not suitable for them, I use better material for my bunny at home.
6. fish have no space to swim, maybe a depth of 30cm maximum, the biggest fish can only barely fit.
7. artificial plants everywhere.8) bad smell all around.
8. armadillo running in circles, not enough space and has nothing to do.
9. children free to touch any animals they want, no fences.
10. bugs everywhere. I left the zoo feeling depressed and sad that I gave money to this...

Okay, the price is cheap, and i see how that would attract families. The real price is the torture the animals feel. Every enclosure is way too small, from the armadilo pacing nervously to the bats covering in a corner because they are just in a small, highly lit cage. Even some monkeys laying depressed on the ground. I have never seen such terrible conditions for animals. Please stay away from this zoo and do not fund this animal torture. There are zoos that give adequate care and space for animals, do some research, and go to one of those instead. I was shocked and sickend for going here. I wish I never gave money for...

We were excited to see Zoo but got a little disappointed - surroundings of the zoo was not in good shape, zoo itself is inside one building and in a very small area for so many animals. Felt a little embarrassed that they are having so small living space. Another unpleasant thing was to see so many cockroaches running everywhere. Person who was telling us about animals was nice, told a lot about many of them. She saw that we are afraid of cockroaches and told that they will not come with us outside...
